The Story -- Hacker's Notes -- Walkthrough

The Story

Nar0273: Unbelievable! The Largest layer of petrol in the world
          was found by DWA Petroleum!

Nar0274: The Shock! The Eccentric billionaire Duncan W. Adams
has disappeared, who will inherit his empire?

Nar0275: The Wait, the family desperately seeks the will of
          Duncan W. Adams.

Nar0325: The Adams family hires a specialist to find the
          document...

Jou0382: Let's read this letter of engagement again ...

Jou0276: "Dear Sir, we are writing to you for help in the
event that our dear, recently deceased uncle, much in
keeping with his character, has left us with a final
eccentricity. He has hidden his will in his mansion,
leaving clues to its whereabouts, a literal paper
chase. Given that he had a passion for safes, it is
highly probable that he has hidden it in one of them.
You were recommended to us for your skill in opening
any kind of lock. Thus, we are counting on you to find
the will and to return it to us as quickly as possible.
          You may name your price.
Signed: Elizabeth Adams, representing the Adams family"

Jou0383: I will have to do justice to my reputation. Let's find
that will, the faster the better!

sharks, thirsty for power and money. I've had enough.
I would still prefer being just a stock broker, like
I was at the beginning of my career, to being the CEO
of a multinational petroleum conglomerate. I was much
happier and had fewer enemies. Luckily my family has
always been there for me and my passion has allowed
me to escape from time to time. But now I've decided

I hope you're well and still having fun making up
wild combinations and mechanisms for safes. I'm afraid
I'll never have your passion for those things. It must
come from your taste for the unpredictable and absurd.
Things are going fairly well for me. I am still
looking after little Sarah, Edward's daughter.
She's so adorable! We're thinking of paying

digit is not part of the code. If the color is green
and blinks, the digit is part of the code, but it is
on a different position. If the green color stays on,
the digit is on the correct position. The last digit
          is always "9". To crack this safe, enter 1 2 3 4
first. If, for example, "3" blinks green, it means
"3" is part of the code, but it is not on the 3rd
          position. Next, enter 5 6 7 8. If, for example, "5"
and "7" blink, it means they are parts of the code,
but "5" is not on the 1st position, and "7" is not
on the 3rd position. Now, you have all digits of the
          code: "3", "5", "7" and the last one is "9". Only "5"
may be on the 3rd position, so, in this example, the
code is either "3759" or "7359". Which one is the
correct one shall be verified by entering them via
the dialer. The code of the safe changes after every
five attempts, or when the device is reset.

          My dear brother Walter,
I am writing you to let you know how glad I am to see
you are leaving the hustle and bustle of the business
world and devoting yourself to a more peaceful life.
We would like to point out to you that we did not like
at all the image you were portraying of our fine
Scottish family. I know you do not like me calling you
Walter and that you prefer to keep your middle name
secret, but I think it is a shame to reject one's name.
          Your sister, Margaret
